Boating Inattention And Inexperience Contributed Most To Boating Accidents Last Year

On behalf of Charles G. Monnett III & Associates

While out on the lake or waterway this summer and hereafter, please make sure that you and your loved ones pay attention while boating, and moreover, always choose an experienced boat operator. Boating operator inattention andinexperience ranked 1st and 2nd out of the “Top Ten Known Primary Contributing Factors of (boating) Accidents” for the year 2012, as reported by the United States Coast Guard Recreational Boating Statistics for 2012.

A “boating accident” occurs whenever a death, missing person, personal injury, property damage, or total vessel loss results from the vessel’s operation, construction, seaworthiness, equipment, or machinery. The Recreational Boating Statistics for 2012 shows that boating accidents occurred more frequently in July versus any other month last year. Not surprisingly, the number of deaths from boating accidents were also at its peak in the month of July.

That is why it is particularly important to be mindful and attentive while boating. Doing so should reduce the risk of you and your loved ones experiencing unnecessary drawbacks to an enjoyable summer. Accordingly, we hope that you, your friends, and family enjoy a safe and lovely summer out on the water.
