In recent years, distracted driving has become a catalyst for North Carolina automobile collisions. Despite the efforts from law enforcement and legislators to stop it, people continue to drive distracted. Now, a proposed hands-free law hopes to stop distracted driving.
Proposed New Law
This new law, would require all adult drivers to use hands-free/wireless communication while driving. Meaning they should not have a cellphone in their hands or lap while operating their vehicle.
However, the law will prohibit teenagers from even using hands-free/wireless communication.
Legislators hope to pass the law by July 1st of this year.
Distracted Driving
Distracted driving has led to numerous fatal crashes in the past few years. Recent research shows that distracted driving killed 356 people in North Carolina.
However, this statistic doesn’t count those who have been severely and catastrophically injured as a result of distracted driving as well.
These injuries suffered as a direct result of the negligence of someone else could lead to never-ending medical bills, loss of income and future expensive medical care costs.
