Internet & Cellular Providers Response to Pandemic

Due to COVID-19 and the impact it will have on consumers financially, multiple businesses, banks and corporations have announced measures to help those impacted the most. Internet and cellular providers are among the many businesses offering alternative plans for affected customers.

Providers and Policies

AT&T is offering eligible customers home internet and wireless plans for free or a greatly reduced cost. The company is also participating in the Affordable Connectivity Program that provides home internet or broadband Service to those who cannot afford regular rates.

Verizon waived late fees and suspended service termination for 6 months in 2020. The telecom giant signed onto the FCC’s “Keep Americans Connected” pledge. As of 2022, the company makes no mention of formal programs for those affected by COVID.

T-Mobile/Sprint originally added capacity and data limits for some customers. As of 2022, they do not have an active COVID relief programs, but their site mentions flexibility for late payments.

Comcast is actively participating in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), an offshoot of the government’s Emergency Broadband Benefit Program. All tiers of Internet service will remain available for a drastically reduced cost for those who meet government eligibility standards.

Spectrum is another key participant in the ACP. Check their website for more details.
