Airlines Waive Fees During Pandemic

We are constantly monitoring corporate responses to COVID-19. As such, this article was updated on May 27th, 2022.

Due to COVID-19 and the impact it will have on consumers financially, multiple businesses, banks and major corporations have announced measures to help those impacted the most. Among those laying out plans to help their customers are major airlines.

COVID-19 Policy Updates

  • American Airlines – Travelers who purchased Premium Cabin, Premium Economy, or Main Cabin fares will not pay change fees for domestic and select international flights. However, Basic Economy tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable.
  • Delta Airlines – Waived all change fees for tickets purchased on or before April 30th, 2021.
  • United Airlines – Permanently removed change fees for most Economy and premium tickets for domestic flights, or flights between the United States and Mexico or the Caribbean
  • Frontier Airlines – Customers must cancel flights more than 60 days before departure to receive a full refund.
  • JetBlue – The airline promises no change or cancellation fees for most fares except their lowest tier- Blue Basic.
  • Spirit Airlines – Tickets purchased before April 5th, 2021 are exempt from modification and cancellation fees. Otherwise, see the corporate website for a breakdown of fees and reservation credits.
